patterns, tiles & a lot of grout
A workshop full of tiny tiles
Grouted is Dani: one maker, one bench and a Cambridge workshop stacked with boxes of ceramic, glass, mirror and rescued vintage crockery.
The patterns come from the city itself: Victorian tiled floors, doorsteps and hallways spotted on walks around Cambridge, redrawn as trays, coasters and frames you can actually use.
Every piece is made in small batches for the shop and the stall. Nothing is mass-produced, and no two are quite the same.
How a piece happens
Drawn on a grid
Every pattern starts on a tile grid in Inkscape, nudged square by square until the geometry sits just right.
Cut & laid by hand
Tesserae are nipped from ceramic, glass, mirror and vintage crockery, then laid one by one onto the pattern.
The signature grout
Dark grout finishes every piece. It draws the outline that pulls the tiles together and makes each colour sing.
The ceramic palette
Seventeen matte ceramic colours, mixed and matched across every piece, always outlined in dark grout.
